Being the truest and most authentic version of your self can sometimes be one of the most difficult paths to take. It can often be a challenging and difficult journey where the many versions of yourself that you created along the way need to be shed before you can truly understand who you are and create a life that is in alignment with your true self.
The shedding of these many faces can be painful and difficult and sometimes you may face ridicule and confusion from the people closest to you. Just that itself can almost make you turn back on the journey or not want to even brave that path at all. However, I can promise you that if you do take that leap of faith and step on to that path you will get to live a life which will bring you true happiness – a kind of happiness and fulfilment that you could never have experienced if you didn’t take that path.
By being your most authentic self, not only will you find yourself making decisions that create the life you want, but you will actually be attracting people, events, jobs and experiences into your reality that are in alignment with that life as well. This works because of the Law of Attraction which is a universal law that simply means we are able to manifest things into our reality by thought alone. This can be something that is conscious or unconscious but either way the way that we are living has a huge impact on what we are bringing into our lives. This is why it is so important to think and behave in a way that resonates with our core being. The Law of Attraction website puts this quite nicely when it says
“Very few people are fully aware of how much of an impact the Law of Attraction has on their day to day life. Whether we are doing it knowingly or unknowingly, every second of our existence, we are acting as human magnets sending out our thoughts and emotions and attracting back more of what we have put out.”
At this point you can probably see why it is so important to be who we really are because if we are presenting a person to the world who is not who we truly are, then we are just attracting things into our life that is a vibrational match to a fake personality rather than the things our heart really desires. To create the life that we actually want, we have to present our true authentic self to the universe and live life in accordance to who we are.
You may think that how you behave, the friends that you have and the activities you participate in doesn’t make much difference to what kind of life you want to live but everything you do in life has subtle effect on your consciousness. This subtle effect, believe it or not, has the powerto change the direction that your life is going in.
For example, if you were to go to events that aligned with your hobbies and interests then you could make friends and connections with people that were on your wavelength. Not only that but the friends that you make from these events might introduce you to other people and invite you to other events where you might have wonderful experiences. Going even further, something that someone says at that event may suddenly inspire you to create or do something that could change your life. Do you see where I am going with this? Each decision we make in life is deciding what timeline we are on and to be on the best timeline possible for each of us as individuals we need to make decisions that resonate with our true passions, interests and goals for life.
I believe that the main reason that most people fail to live a life that is in accordance with who they really are is that they feel that they might become a social outcast or might face ridicule and misunderstanding from their family and friends. It can be so difficult to resist the need to bend to what society wants you to be or the need to be someone with status.
This is completely understandable and is actually a trait within human nature that has occurred from evolution. In pre-civilsation times, humans were more likely to survive if they were part of a cohesive social group and being a social outcast could have easily meant a struggle to survive or even death. As such, we do not enjoy social rejection and in most cases do anything we can to prevent it. However, what has happened here is that in keeping a hold of that survival mindset we have ended up afraid to be who we really are for fear that we will be rejected from our social circle.
Somebody who faced complete and utter rejection from society at one stage of their life, and in fact still is rejected by a large portion of society today, is the controversial figure David Icke. David Icke is a researcher, writer and public speaker. In 1991 he was interviewed by Terry Wogan on primetime television and spoke about the means of control that government, corporations, central banks and other powerful entities use to govern the masses as well as other topics that are deemed controversial. As a result, he was horrendously ridiculed and mocked by most of Britain for years and couldn’t even walk down the street without being laughed at. Icke speaks about this time as a critical point in his life for instead of choosing to hide away from such severe ridicule and humiliation, he decided to carry on exactly what he was doing and just not give a damn about what people thought of him. Today, he is a best-selling author whose shows completly sell out, including shows done at Wembley Arena which can seat up to 6000 people.
Icke’s story just shows us how ever hard it is, it is worth it to be ourselves and speak our truth as there will always be people who listen and admire you even if the majority don’t. Icke’s unprecedented success just shows us the good we can do when we actually step into being the person who we were meant to be. One of my favourite quotes of Icke is when he says:
“The greatest prison that people live in is the fear of what people think.”
This is definitely true and when we do step out of this mindset and face our fears in this way we can experience a kind of exhilarating liberation and one that allows a new version of our self to step forward.
The reason why I believe it is so incredibly important to be true to yourself is because of the revelations I have had in my own life. When I assessed my life and thought about what was holding me back from the things that I wanted and felt I needed to do, I realised that I was actually holding myself back. I was trying to fit into a way of being that wasn’t really me and was also trying to be a person that I thought would fit better into society. I suddenly saw it so clearly. I couldn’t be secretly one person and then present to the world another person. This just wouldn’t work and if I wanted to achieve certain things in life I needed to be just one person which was the real me.
I would have to put myself out there and discuss subjects that most people would call you crazy for even discussing. Regardless of what people thought, I had to be who I was otherwise it would block me from fulfilling my soul’s purpose. I looked into the life that I would have if I lived in accordance with my true self and saw that along that road I would make many wonderful friends and connections, have many amazing spiritual experiences, I would expand as a person and be able to do some good in this world. I would live a life focused on Love and this would bring the most wonderful things into my life. The rewards of being my true authentic self and creating a life that was in alignment with who I was would far outweigh the difficulties that I might encounter along the way.
So I decided that was exactly what I was going to do. I was not going to hide my passions and interests and the things in life that I thought were really important. My passions and motivations in life for me are my spiritual growth as well aiding the growth of others so these were the things I was going to build my life around. I knew that not everyone would understand or get this side of me but I knew that in the longrun my authenticity would pay off. I would be able to create a life that was more in alignment with my passions and interests and fulfil the deep yearning in my soul.
Since making this decision, I have made connections and done things that I would never have done if I hadn’t made that decision. Life has felt incredible and I feel like I am learning new things all the time. Opportunities keep springing up for me from all different directions and for the first time in years I feel like I am finally on my path.
It’s not always easy and I do have many days where I feel life is a struggle but that is ok and it is completely normal to have ups and downs (I am afraid that nothing can really stop that). If I do feel a little down in the dumps, I do things that make me feel happy and help raise my vibration. I watch a motivational documentary, listen to beautiful music or get out into nature. All those things help to bring me back to centre and help me to remember what I am trying to achieve in life. The important thing to me is that I stay true to myself and focus on building a life that reflects who I am and the love and joy that I want to bring to the world.
